Tactics

Increase participation in experiential learning

We plan to increase participation in experiential learning by creating additional opportunities for students, including zero-credit and no-credit options like InternFSU that give students on-campus internship experience.

Align instruction with post-graduation success

FSU is promoting the teaching of critical thinking skills and has instituted a Center for the Advancement of Teaching to assist in increasing faculty engaged in curricular and pedagogical redesign that aligns with the skills necessary for post-graduation success.

Reduce curricular obstacles to timely graduation

FSU will improve student success with smaller classes, more efficient course sequences, higher average student credit hour loads, and by improving passage and completion rates in gateway courses.

Activities and Accomplishments

  • FSU boasts the highest-ever four-year graduation rate of any public university in Florida, 74% – a rate that should be among the top 10 nationally.
  • FSUshadow, a one-day job shadowing experience with employers, received the 2020 Best Practices Education Award from the Cooperative Education and Internship Association (CEIA). This award recognizes a higher education program that offers creative and innovative solutions, creates a positive change in overall institutional operations, and is replicable for other institutions to adapt.
  • FSU became the largest and most diverse university in the country to establish an experiential learning graduation requirement for all undergraduate students entering the University.
  • With over 60% of undergraduate classes under 20 students for the second year in a row, FSU remains among a few institutions with that distinction.
  • FSU’s Center for the Advancement of Teaching expanded its Learning Assistant Program, increasing passage rates in some of most difficult gateway courses.
