Enhance Campus Commitment to Sustainability

Tactics

Reduce greenhouse gas emissions

FSU will demonstrate its commitment to climate action by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and optimizing campus energy consumption.

Expand resource conservation

FSU will improve its resource stewardship by increasing water conservation, improving its landfill diversion rate and by deploying resource conscious landscape practices.

Increase sustainability programming on campus

FSU will increase educational programs promoting sustainability in the classroom and outside the classroom for students, faculty and staff.


Activities and Accomplishments

  • FSU received a Green rating in the Princeton Review’s sustainability category for the first time, recognizing a school’s performance as an environmentally aware and prepared institution. On a scale of 60-99, Florida State scored a 96.
  • More than 67,521 lbs. of food has been recovered by the Food Recovery Network since 2014. Since 2014, the Food Recovery Network program has recovered 69,263 lbs. of food, equaling 57,719 meals to the FSU and Tallahassee community.
  • Sustainability Fellows and Campus as Living Lab programs implemented to support sustainability-related experiential learning opportunities in the curriculum.
  • Sustainable Campus hosted socially distanced reCycle Bike program distribution event this Fall, connecting FSU students to safe and sustainable transportation. Cycling fills a critical transportation need for students and offers a low-contact way to reduce transportation related emissions.
